Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

People today know that botox injection procedures are fast and easy, and make the skin look more youthful. Its cosmetic applications have advanced significantly over the last few years, with more and more people now looking to undergo botox injections with the hope of getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

You may have read about it in the news or even seen it on television - more and more celebrities are now using botox injections to maintain their young looks and skin. But the question on many people's mind is 'why is it so popular?' or 'what makes it such a sought after procedure?'

There is a very basic reason for this. Ageing skin is a big problem, and people know that botox is inexpensive and effective. It's a fast treatment, there are no scars which can happen from plastic surgery, and it is pretty easy on the bank account. Celebrities have made botox a household name, and because of this, many more people are now choosing to undergo these treatments.

Do Men get Botox?

There is a common misconception that botox injections are sought after by women and women alone. The truth is to the contrary. Even though the procedure is more often performed on women, men are getting botox treatments more often nowadays. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. It's even about 50/50 men and women in certain clinics that administer botox treatments.

Changing trends

The fact is, botox usage is going up. It is estimated that the number of men and women who underwent botox injection rose from 2010 to 2011 by around 5% - that's a rise from 5.4 million to 5.7 million people. There are those who say that the number is more accurately about 10% per year that it rises. This rising trend should come as no surprise. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. As time goes by, more and more people see this as an acceptable treatment method.

But that's not all. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

There is no doubt that the future is bright for botox. Research is ongoing into looking at newer applications, and the results so far are promising.
